Mikey is a great addition to our squad. He comes with great experience and i know what he can do. It’s the type of player we need to be signing to move the club forward. The boys all love him and he fits the dressing room well.

Ryan Whelan Retires

Latest News

At 34, Ryan felt the time was right.

Playing a big part in the club securing promotion to the Premier League, then staying up last season, he leaves the club with a solid foundation for us to build on.

A career starting in the Highland League and 2 winners medals with Cove Rangers, he had a spell on loan with East End. He moved onto Banchory St Ternan and then another spell in the Highland League with Keith. He left there to join up with Culter and then onto a second spell with Banchory St Ternan, scoring some crucial goals, including a 25 yard rocket in the final to secure a league and cup double.

Lastly, he spent 4 years with us at Newmachar. Vice captain and captained the team for long spells in Euan’s absence.

We’ll be marking Ryan’s career with a retirement match on Sunday 11th August at Charlie’s with a 2pm KO. Followed by some drinks and a bite to eat at the Newmachar Hotel. It would great if you’d come along and share some stories with us.

The gaffer had a few words to say.

It’s been a pleasure. Ryan is a gentleman. He’s been the model pro for me over 6 years or so. The short spell at Keith, then the success we enjoyed at Banchory. He was probably the missing piece in that team who were playing so well but couldn’t score. Ryan came in around October and scored 20 goals or so, Including big goals in 1-0 wins over Deveronside & Stoneywood and of course the goal in the final against Hearties where we played 80 mins with 10 men. Again, fantastic at Newmacher and although some of the younger lads probably don’t realise it yet, they’ll look back in years to come and see what an influence he’s had on them.

3 promotions, 2 trophies and helping us stay in the Premier League last season. We’ve had a good run at it and only one fall out too. Enjoy your retirement, Wheels. Don’t be a stranger.

All the best and thanks for everything, Ryan.

Club restructure

Latest News

As part of the off field restructuring the Club wish to announce John Matthew moves into the position of Honorary Chairperson, Brian Johnston becomes Chairperson and Ryan Rodger comes in as Secretary/Treasurer.

Brian Johnston said of his appointment:

Since we managed to secure our Premier League status and as part of our long-term plan, we needed to restructure our operating side and I am delighted to become Chairperson of the Club.

John has been an ever present since the Club joined the Juniors and has put so much into the whole club. He lives and breathes Newmachar United so it’s great he’s still part of the Junior Executive Committee. I am delighted Ryan of North East Windows & Doors Ltd has agreed to join as Secretary/Treasurer as he’s been a main sponsor for the team over the past 4 years but will now bring a wealth of experience and knowledge with his previously being Club secretary and hospitality at Keith FC.

We also have a strong committed general committee, all have been given responsibilities which provide a more structured approach to all facets of the day to day running of the Club. We have progressed well on the field over the past 4 seasons with our management team who have built up a decent squad and they’ve a similar shared vision and have the full support of the committee so this helps us provide stability to become an established Premier League club.

We have some exciting projects planned and I am confident we have the right people in the right places to make us a success on and off the field.

Euan Dryburgh makes his comeback!

Latest News

It’s been a tough 18 months for the now club skipper.

A shoulder injury at home to Cruden Bay ruled him out for months of last season and then a leg break in the first pre season friendly against Forfar West End saw the skipper face another lengthy battle to get back on the pitch.

But he’s made it and with 30 mins remaining he played a vital part in our visit to Islavale, winning 4-3 with a stoppage time winner from Caly Reid.

Here’s what he had to say…

It’s been a long, slow road to recovery and I’m delighted to have made it back into the team this season. That was the goal from the days/weeks after I broke my leg, with the gaffer saying he was going to plan for a season without me. It gave me something to focus on regaining strength to get back as early and as fit as I could. I’m happy to have achieved it, even better that we managed to grind out the win in the way that we did. Now we’re into the business end of the season I’m hoping to play as big a role as I can. That character shown will be hugely important for us in the next few months as we really try to push for promotion.

Stevo Young joins Newmachar

Latest News

Newmachar United add Stevo Young!

Newmachar United are delighted to announce Steven Young (31) has signed for the club after his release from Banchory St Ternan.

A Superleague player with a proven track record in Junior football with Parkvale, Stoneywood Parkvale and lastly, a double league and cup winner with Banchory St Ternan. Steven brings quality and a wealth of Junior experience and is a great addition to the squad.

Steven had this to say…

As soon as I had left Banchory and knew Newmachar were interested, I wanted to be part of Ewan and his coaching staffs plans for Newmachar, I already knew 1 or 2 of the players so knew the club were going in the right direction with a strong committee backing including Brian who I had worked with previously at Parkvale. I would also like to thank the Banchory St Ternan committee for the last two seasons and for allowing me to make the move

The new gaffer was equally as excited with the addition of Young to the squad.

Stevo was at the heart of the success we had at Banchory. I think he maybe missed 2 games or so over the whole time he was there so for us it’s a massive signing and he’s the kind of player we need to be signing to take the club forward. His experience is invaluable and he’s good with the younger lads in the squad too which will only help them moving forward.

Welcome to the club, Stevo!
