Forres Thistle 2-1 Newmachar Utd

We travelled up to Forres hoping to put Tuesday’s result behind us but we fell short despite enough big chances to win the game.

We started the game slowly and were punished as the home side scored two headed goals in the opening 20 minutes leaving us a mountain to climb.

The home side were the better team in the first half and deserved their lead at the break although we did have a great chance when Calum Reid hit the crossbar from a far post diving header but apart from that we created very little to trouble the home defence. A penalty shout was waved away as Conor Watt was take down on the by line after he’d crossed.

HT 2-0

We came out in the second half with a change of attitude and pinned the home side back and eventually got a goal when Ryan Cormack beat the offside trap, rounded the keeper and placed the ball past the defender on the line.

He then hit the post and the home keeper had a great close range save from Stevo Young.

As we were looking for the equaliser we were prone to the counter attack and the home side did create a few chances but Simon Mitchell dealt with them easily. We just ran out of time but credit to the home side who defended stubbornly and they held out for a 2-1 win which takes them within a point of us but we have a game in hand.

We caught up with the gaffer after the game to get his thoughts…

Nearly. A much better performance in the second half. We have to start better and defend crosses into the box. We’ve been so good defensively for so long, the past two games are hard to explain but hopefully we can continue the way we finished the game into another tough game on Tuesday.
